FAQs

What is concierge nursing, and how does it differ from traditional home health care?

Concierge nursing provides highly personalized, one-on-one care tailored directly to your specific needs without the restrictive limits of traditional insurance or home health agencies. Unlike standard agency care, we offer flexible scheduling, extended visits, direct access to your dedicated Registered Nurse, and customized services ranging from appointment advocacy to holistic end-of-life support.

How quickly can services begin after we contact you?

In many cases, care can begin within 24 to 48 hours following an initial consultation and care assessment. We also do our best to accommodate urgent, short-notice requests—such as sudden hospital discharges, Emergency Room visits, or immediate gap nursing needs.

Do I need a doctor’s referral to hire a concierge nurse?

No, a physician’s referral is not required to begin our services. You or a family member can reach out to us directly to discuss your needs, schedule an initial consultation, and begin receiving individualized care right away.

Can you work alongside my existing doctors and home care team?

Absolutely. We act as a vital bridge between you and your healthcare providers. We coordinate closely with your primary care physicians, specialists, therapists, and pharmacies to ensure seamless care continuity and aligned treatment plans.

Are your services covered by health insurance or Medicare?

Concierge nursing operates on a private-pay model, meaning we do not bill insurance or Medicare directly. This model allows us to focus entirely on delivering uncompromised, high-quality care without third-party restrictions. Upon request, we can provide itemized receipts (superbills) that you may submit to your long-term care insurance or health savings account (HSA/FSA) for potential reimbursement.

What is Gap Nursing, and when would I need it?

Gap Nursing fills in coverage gaps when traditional home health agencies, clinic visits, or family caregivers are unavailable. Whether you need short-term supplemental nursing following a procedure or ongoing primary nursing support at home, we step in to ensure your care remains continuous and safe.

What does a Patient Advocate do during doctor or hospital visits?

As your personal patient advocate, an experienced Registered Nurse accompanies you or your loved one to medical appointments, Urgent Care, or Emergency Room visits. We help ask the right clinical questions, ensure medical terminology is clearly explained, take detailed notes, and guarantee your preferences and voice are heard and respected by the medical team.

How do I get started with care for myself or a loved one?

Getting started is simple. Contact us via phone or our online form to schedule an initial consultation. We will discuss your current situation, answer any questions, and design a customized care plan tailored to your health goals and lifestyle.

What is included in Transitional Care?

Transitional Care focuses on safely guiding patients through health system changes—such as moving from a hospital or rehabilitation facility back home, or into assisted living and hospice care. We manage post-discharge instructions, review medications, coordinate equipment needs, and provide hands-on monitoring to prevent complications and hospital readmissions.

What geographic areas do you serve?

We provide in-person concierge nursing, patient advocacy, and doula services throughout Rhode Island and surrounding communities. Virtual care coordination and consultation services are also available for families managing care from a distance.

What are Gentle Passage Doula Services?

Gentle Passage Doula Services offer non-medical emotional, educational, and holistic support for individuals and families navigating life’s final chapter. Working alongside hospice and palliative teams, we bring peace of mind, comfort, dignity, and guidance during end-of-life transitions.

How are care plans customized for individual patients?

Every care plan begins with a comprehensive initial consultation where we assess your clinical needs, personal preferences, and lifestyle goals. From there, we design a flexible, one-on-one nursing strategy that adapts in real time as your health needs or living situations evolve.
